Land navigation

This course will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of land navigation using the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS). We'll start with the fundamentals of map reading, ensuring you can interpret various topographic symbols and features. You'll learn how to use a compass effectively, including techniques for setting a bearing and following a course in the field.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Understanding the MGRS: You will learn the structure of MGRS, including grid zone designators, 100,000-meter squares, and numerical coordinates. We will practice reading coordinates with different levels of precision.
- Topographic Map Reading: Gain proficiency in identifying key map features like elevation contours, terrain relief, and man-made structures. This skill is crucial for visualizing the ground before you even get there.
- Compass Proficiency: Master the use of a lensatic or baseplate compass to determine your direction of travel and navigate to a specific point. We'll cover everything from declination to shooting an azimuth.
- Putting it all Together: Through practical exercises and hands-on scenarios, you'll combine your map and compass skills to navigate diverse terrain with confidence. You'll learn how to plan a route, report your position, and stay oriented in any environment.
By the end of this class, you won't just know how to find your way; you'll have the confidence to navigate any landscape using a map and compass.
Night navigation

Join our land navigation course first before sighing up for night navigation. Be prepared and transform the way you see the night. We'll show you how to leverage your natural night vision to navigate in total darkness. You'll gain a suite of essential skills, including how to find Polaris for direction, read a map with ease after sundown, and establish a reliable pace count. By the end of this course, you will have the skills and complete confidence to navigate any terrain, any time.
Wilderness survival training:

Join us for comprehensive wilderness survival training where you will learn the critical skills needed to thrive in any outdoor environment. This course goes beyond basic camping, focusing on the core principles of survival. Our hands-on training covers:

Advanced first aid Stop the bleed

In this class you will learn combat medic techniques, general first aid. We teach a stop the bleed beyond anything you’ve learned before. You will walk away from this class with the confidence that you’ll know exactly what to do in most any situation.

Pathfinder's radio club workshop

As a club, we're proud to have three ARRL-certified Volunteer Examiner Coordinators (VECs). This means we're able to administer the official exams right here, making your journey from student to licensed operator as smooth as possible. So, let's get started on your path to earning your call sign!
